…Next Saturday’s Gig Cancelled…

…Historical stuff!!...

Next Saturday’s gig at The Miners Arms is off.

Still, we’re at one of our favourite venues on Sunday!

Sunday 19 – The Beehive, Swindon

The gig at Hobbits went well and we are looking forward to playing a full set with Jock (Andy Jamieson) at The Back Bar in Weston on 29 November.  It was good to dust off some old stuff!

Talking of old stuff; Andy has recently started to put together web pages for a couple of his old bands.  The first ones are just about finished and can be found through the history and links pages of this site.  There should even be a couple of mp3’s loaded!

24 SEPTEMBER 2008

…The Bands 10th Anniversary…

Hard to believe that it is very nearly 10 years since the first Outsider Gig (3 October 1998 at The Bungalow)!!!

We’ve hit a fair few milestones over the years but 10 years is about the most significant and something that we want to celebrate over the next few months.  There are a few things that we have in mind but one definite plan is to feature a few of the older tracks in the rest of the gigs this year.  But better than that we will also be bringing one of the original members back to the band for some of the gigs.  Andy Jamieson (AKA Jock) will appear with us at:

2 October  Hobbits, Weston-super-Mare

29 November  The Back Bar, Weston-super-Mare

….and possibly a few other gigs as well.  We rehearsed together a few days ago and Jock tore through a large chunk of the back catalogue and some of our newer covers.  We all had a blast and are looking forward to presenting one hell of a wall of sound at these gigs.  “Reach for me” sounds awesome!!

One other thing that we’d like to do on this site is a little update of what the past members of Outsider have gone on to do and are currently up to – musically that is.  If any of you are occasional visitors to the site please get in touch (via the email button).

23 JULY 2008

…Gig Changes…

There have been several changes to the gig list in the last few weeks so it’s worth checking the gig page.

One particular change is the switch from Thursday 24 to Thursday 31 July for the first of two Cross Rifles (Bridgwater) gigs.  The second gig on 8 August starts at 7PM!

6 JUNE 2008

…The Last Word…

The new cd is finished!  It’s mixed mastered and, if the artwork is on schedule, will be released next Thursday at the Hobbits gig in Weston-super-Mare.

Track Listing is as follows

1.     Nothing to Lose

2.       Glass House

3.     Is Nothing Sacred

4.     Break This

5.     The Last word

The cd is a mixture of old and new stuff and whilst a couple of the tracks featured on our last cd, these are new recordings and the first featuring the current line up of the band.  One full mp3 and some samplers are on the mp3 page!

Recording this EP gave the band the chance to get to grips with a whole new way of recording and the use of pro-tools!  So the next project will be the new album (which may well be called “Three”) and we aim to start this very soon.

30 MAY 2008

…Changes to the gig list…

…The new CD…

Sunday’s gig at the Kingshead in Dursley has been re-scheduled for Thursday 30 October.

There have been quite a few changes to the gig list in recent weeks – a few additions and several cancellations – it seems a number of venues have really started to struggle financially and had to cut back or even stop live music altogether.  Obviously this is a trend that we hope will reverse but an altogether more worrying trend is the “you’re too heavy” crap that we are hearing more of these days.  We recently played to a busy venue in Newton Abbot where we were encouraged by a very enthusiastic audience to play a batch of Metallica covers that we weren’t necessarily expecting to play that night (we do tone it down when we have to!).  Not needing much encouragement we belted out “For whom the bell tolls” and “Creeping Death” and had a pretty good time (not quite as good as the night before in Tiverton but good).  At the end of the night we had an enquiry from an employee of another venue and the offer of a gig at a private party in the area and more……but the venue cancelled our remaining booking as the “new management” prefer more middle of the road and kari F’N okee!

What the hell – we fight on and the last thing we’re going to do is start to water down what has turned in to by far the most solid set the band has ever had.

Turning now to original stuff.  We have two gigs coming up where we will be teaming up with Taunton band The Evolution Project.

June 12 at Hobbits, Weston-super-Mare and

July 25 at The Wagon in Taunton

This gives us the chance to showcase the recent additions (original material) to our set.  The gig at The Stones Cross on Friday 6 June will also lean heavily to original material!!

Very soon we will be able to give full details and some mp3 previews of the new cd!  Very soon!

29 MARCH 2008

…New recording project underway…

The band has recently started work on some new recordings and plan to release an EP in May containing some new and reworked material.  By then work will have started on the next full length album and there is even more in the pipeline!

There have been a number of gig additions and alterations lately, so it’s worth checking the gigs page regularly.

15 JANUARY 2008

…Hatchet gig changed to The Old Tavern…

Due to problems at the venue the Hatchet gig on 24 January has unfortunately been cancelled.

All is not lost, however, as The Old Tavern in Stapleton have stepped in to let us relocate the gig there and on the same night.

A massive thank you to Simon for this.

It will be great to be back at one of our oldest Bristol gigs and we aim to make a night of it!

8 JANUARY 2008

…A few gig changes…

The gig at The Windmill scheduled for Friday 18 January has been postponed.  Hopefully we’ll have a new date soon.

The gig scheduled for 24 February at The Kingshead in Dursley has now been put back to Sunday 1 June.

Thursday 24 January sees the band play its first all original gig of the year at The Old Tavern in Bristol with our good friends Fake Hand.  Both bands will be playing a set of about one hour and we plan to concentrate on songs that will form the basis for the next cd.
