ENTRIES FOR 2002 THROUGH TO 2010 BELOW

9 OCTOBER 2010

New Bass Player

The search for a new Bass player is over.

Nathan Brew has now joined the band and will make his first live appearance on October 22 at The Cross Rifles.

We have to give a massive thank you to our very good friend and bass maestro Dave Werrett for helping us to keep most of our gig commitments in the last few months!

10 JULY 2010

Old Band’s

One other bit of news – there is now a separate sub site within this site for another of Andy’s old bands Zenith.  The photos are a laugh and there are a few MP3’s!!

The links are in the History page and here:-

This Weekends Gigs!

Unfortunately we have had to cancel this Saturdays gig at The Miners.  However, we are able to play Fridays date at The Old Tavern in Bristol.

Next weeks gig on the Friday has also had to be cancelled but Saturday 29th at The Old Fox IS ON

10 MAY 2010

Last Saturdays Gig!

A big thank you to everyone at The Queens Head in Box for helping to make Saturdays gig a special night for us.  Obviously this is a difficult time for the band but the reaction we got was a big lift to us.  This was in no small way down to our rather excellent stand in bassist on the night.  We managed to blast through way over 20 songs on the back of one rehearsal which was amazing!!

7 MAY 2010

Line up change!!!

Apologies to anyone who turned up at The Railway in Fishponds last Saturday expecting to see us, but we had to cancel the gig at short notice when we suddenly found ourselves without a bass player.  A big thank you though to Amy and Mark at The Railway for their understanding and we look forward to returning there next year at some time.

This Saturday’s gig at The Queens Head in Box IS STILL ON.  We have a very good stand in Bass Guitarist for most of the remaining gigs in May but obviously we are very much on the search for a permanent replacement.  Anyone interested can get in touch via the email address on this site.

25 APRIL 2010

Remixes…

A long time with no news!

It’s been a bit quieter on the gig front but things have been happening.  Our latest album “Three” has just been re-mixed and should be available from this Saturday (we are at The Railway in Fishponds, Bristol).

We have also started to rehearse some of the older songs ready for our next recording project not to mention writing stuff for a new release later this year!

More to come later.

22 DECEMBER 2009

Next years gig list…

The first batch of dates for next year has been added.  More to come later.

3 SEPTEMBER 2009

Our email address is back up.

Feel free to drop us an email and we will add you to our mailing list and let you know when we are playing in your area…

7 AUGUST 2009

New look for the site & more gigs added…

We thought it was about time the site had a facelift!!  More work will be done over the next few weeks to update the rest of the site and, of course, the front cover of our new album features on the home page.  A few samples from the cd will also be added in the next few days.

See the Gig Guide for the latest Outsider listings

11 JUNE 2009

New album update…

Well, we’re just about there; at least as far as the music side of it goes.  It’s mixed, mastered and as soon as the artwork is finished and the first batch printed, it’s out!  We’ve had two artwork themes working but have settled for the original idea which is in keeping with the underlying concept of the album.  Nearer to the release date we’ll put the front cover up here.

The plan is to release it on the weekend of our gigs at The Bell in Swindon and The Reckless in Bristol (26 & 27 June).

It’s by far the most ambitious project the band has worked on.  Not just the fact that it clocks in at just over 64 minutes but the fact that several of the songs are quite long!  Three of them break the 10 minute barrier.  If you’ve seen the band live in the last year, chances are you’ve already heard some of them.

All ten songs were written by the band but an important mention has to be made regarding the song “Three”  It’s the longest song in the Outsider repertoire at just under 12 minutes – yes we cut it down!!  Originally a complete song written by guitarist Andy Sayers and briefly in the Outsider set as far back as 1999.  We decided to re-work it a couple of years ago and thought it needed something a bit different for the instrumental break in the middle.

The instrumental break turned in to a bit of a monster and whilst this was very much a band effort we have our former bass player and very good friend Dave Werrett to thank for the intro to the middle section and the intro to the song itself.  Dave also had a hand in the writing of a couple of the other songs on the album

The track listing is as follows: -

1.  The Eleventh Hour (Overture)

2.  Too Late this Time

3.  Nothing to Lose

4.  Moments Before

5.  Three

6.  Feed My Soul

7.  The Last Word

8. Is Nothing Sacred

9.  Reflections

10.  Bleed Through Me

Sample mp3’s and the artwork will follow soon……………

4 MAY 2009

Saturday’s gig is off…

The Stones Cross gig scheduled for Saturday (9 May) is off.  Hopefully things will pick up and we will be back there soon.

The album is finished and we will provide a full update and some sounds soon.  Not only do we think it’s rather good but it’s rather LOUD!!

Now, it’s always a good sign when you turn up at a venue and see your posters on display, looking almost virginal, untouched by the rigours of life in the place over the course of the previous weeks NOT!!  Even better then when you notice the venue management walking around with one of your posters, with fresh blue tack recently applied, whilst you are setting your gear up!  It’s a Saturday night and there were apparently lots of people in the place watching local bands on both on both the Thursday and Friday nights.  Hmmm… wouldn’t it have been a good idea to put the posters up, like BEFORE the night of the gig!  They were, after all hand delivered three weeks beforehand!!  Still, that’s enough of that because if there’s one thing we won’t do its lower ourselves to that level.  Just a little rant which is more than we’ll say for some.

By the way “Full” might be back in the set soon ;-)

6 MARCH 2009

Album update soon and more gigs…

We are in the final stages of mixing the album and will provide a full update and some sounds soon.  We think it’s rather good!!

In the meantime, more gigs have been added to the list.

18 DECEMBER 2008

…The end of 2008 and the future…

As we near the end of another busy year for Outsider we would like to thank all of the people that have supported us over the last 12 months.  It’s been tough at times; there’ve been a few blowout’s with the “you’re not our type of music” crap – even when the audience seem to think otherwise, and there’s been a few “you’re too heavy” lines – but we kind of like that one though!!

We played one gig in Devon where the Landlord came up to us afterwards and said we sounded nothing like our demo and that he was only playing it in the kitchen just before we arrived.  He had to be reminded that when the band arrived he was able to walk in a straight line and was capable of speech!

Again, a big thank you to all of those who supported us and, well, we won’t even waste our energy with the middle finger to some that just aren’t worth the effort.  Over all though we’ve come through the year retaining a clear idea of the direction we want to go in \M/

So, what does the future hold?

First of all there’s the last two gigs of the year this weekend starting with the Vintage in Wellington on Saturday (20th) and The Farriers in Fishponds on Sunday afternoon at 3.

Next years gig list (for the first few months) is up on the gig guide page and there will be additions to this in the coming weeks.

Then there’s the new album!!  We’re nearing the final straight as far as recording goes.  The drums are done as are all ryth guitars, most of the bass and nearly all the solos.  It’s more progressive, darker, and heavier than our previous material and that’s a direction that we will continue to go in.  Hopefully it will be mixed in January, or at least by early February.  The cover artwork is being created by our very good friend, Swindon based artist, Claire Danswan and, well, more will be announced on the project soon!

23 NOVEMBER 2008

…Next Weeks Gig…

The Back Bar gig is still very much on and Andy (Jock) Jamieson will be with us for the majority of the second set in what is basically the culmination of a series of gigs reuniting the original twin guitar line up of the band for the 10th anniversary celebration!  Following this gig we are back to three and we will put the old songs we’ve been airing of late to rest - for now! – (there will be more news on this next year!!) as we concentrate on the songs that will appear on our next album.

Talking of the new album?  Have a look in the studio diary!

14 OCTOBER 2008

Historical stuff!!...

The gig at Hobbits went well and we are looking forward to playing a full set with Jock (Andy Jamieson) at The Back Bar in Weston on 29 November.  It was good to dust off some old stuff!

Talking of old stuff; Andy has recently started to put together web pages for a couple of his old bands.  The first ones are just about finished and can be found through the history and links pages of this site.  There should even be a couple of mp3’s loaded!

24 SEPTEMBER 2008

The Bands 10th Anniversary…

Hard to believe that it is very nearly 10 years since the first Outsider Gig (3 October 1998 at The Bungalow)!!!

We’ve hit a fair few milestones over the years but 10 years is about the most significant and something that we want to celebrate over the next few months.  There are a few things that we have in mind but one definite plan is to feature a few of the older tracks in the rest of the gigs this year.  But better than that we will also be bringing one of the original members back to the band for some of the gigs.  Andy Jamieson (AKA Jock) will appear with us at:

2 October  Hobbits, Weston-super-Mare

29 November  The Back Bar, Weston-super-Mare

….and possibly a few other gigs as well.  We rehearsed together a few days ago and Jock tore through a large chunk of the back catalogue and some of our newer covers.  We all had a blast and are looking forward to presenting one hell of a wall of sound at these gigs.  “Reach for me” sounds awesome!!

One other thing that we’d like to do on this site is a little update of what the past members of Outsider have gone on to do and are currently up to – musically that is.  If any of you are occasional visitors to the site please get in touch (via the email button).

6 JUNE 2008

The Last Word…

The new cd is finished!  It’s mixed mastered and, if the artwork is on schedule, will be released next Thursday at the Hobbits gig in Weston-super-Mare.

Track Listing is as follows

1.     Nothing to Lose

2.     Glass House

3.     Is Nothing Sacred

4.     Break This

5.     The Last word

The cd is a mixture of old and new stuff and whilst a couple of the tracks featured on our last cd, these are new recordings and the first featuring the current line up of the band.  One full mp3 and some samplers are on the mp3 page!

Recording this EP gave the band the chance to get to grips with a whole new way of recording and the use of pro-tools!  So the next project will be the new album (which may well be called “Three”) and we aim to start this very soon.

30 MAY 2008

Changes to the gig list…

The new CD…

Sunday’s gig at the Kingshead in Dursley has been re-scheduled for Thursday 30 October.

There have been quite a few changes to the gig list in recent weeks – a few additions and several cancellations – it seems a number of venues have really started to struggle financially and had to cut back or even stop live music altogether.  Obviously this is a trend that we hope will reverse but an altogether more worrying trend is the “you’re too heavy” crap that we are hearing more of these days.  We recently played to a busy venue in Newton Abbot where we were encouraged by a very enthusiastic audience to play a batch of Metallica covers that we weren’t necessarily expecting to play that night (we do tone it down when we have to!).  Not needing much encouragement we belted out “For whom the bell tolls” and “Creeping Death” and had a pretty good time (not quite as good as the night before in Tiverton but good).  At the end of the night we had an enquiry from an employee of another venue and the offer of a gig at a private party in the area and more……but the venue cancelled our remaining booking as the “new management” prefer more middle of the road and kari F’N okee!

What the hell – we fight on and the last thing we’re going to do is start to water down what has turned in to by far the most solid set the band has ever had.

Turning now to original stuff.  We have two gigs coming up where we will be teaming up with Taunton band The Evolution Project.

June 12 at Hobbits, Weston-super-Mare and

July 25 at The Wagon in Taunton

This gives us the chance to showcase the recent additions (original material) to our set.  The gig at The Stones Cross on Friday 6 June will also lean heavily to original material!!

Very soon we will be able to give full details and some mp3 previews of the new cd!  Very soon!

29 MARCH 2008

New recording project underway…

The band has recently started work on some new recordings and plan to release an EP in May containing some new and reworked material.  By then work will have started on the next full length album and there is even more in the pipeline!

There have been a number of gig additions and alterations lately, so it’s worth checking the gigs page regularly.

15 JANUARY 2008

Hatchet gig changed to The Old Tavern…

Due to problems at the venue the Hatchet gig on 24 January has unfortunately been cancelled.

All is not lost, however, as The Old Tavern in Stapleton have stepped in to let us relocate the gig there and on the same night.

A massive thank you to Simon for this.

It will be great to be back at one of our oldest Bristol gigs and we aim to make a night of it!

8 JANUARY 2008

A few gig changes…

The gig at The Windmill scheduled for Friday 18 January has been postponed.  Hopefully we’ll have a new date soon.

The gig scheduled for 24 February at The Kingshead in Dursley has now been put back to Sunday 1 June.

Thursday 24 January sees the band play its first all original gig of the year at The Old Tavern in Bristol with our good friends Fake Hand.  Both bands will be playing a set of about one hour and we plan to concentrate on songs that will form the basis for the next cd.

21 NOVEMBER 2007

2008 gig listings…

The 2008 gig listings are now included on the gigs page!

11 NOVEMBER 2007

”3”…

2008 gigs…

After a hell of a lot of hard work it was great to get the opportunity to finally play the song “3” in it’s entirety for the first time ever on Saturday (Backpackers, Glastonbury).  And it was thankfully received very well, all 11 minutes of it!  Hopefully we will get the chance to include it in the set on a regular basis as along with the other new songs it really showcases what this band is all about.

The 2008 gig list is looking pretty full already and with the recording plans that we have for the next 6 to 9 months we are going to be very busy.  A full listing for 2008 will appear on the site in the near future.

10 SEPTEMBER 2007

Mosh pit in Somerset!!…

Really!

A big \M/ to everyone at the front on Saturday night for their very demonstrative support.

We were faced with a slightly different kind of gig to what we perhaps expected – for starters it was an outdoor gig starting at 9:30 and, well this is the UK after all – and it was the end of the Wellington Food Festival.  Anyway, the weather was kind, as were the previous band of the day The Tree Frogs who, having been delayed in starting their own set, were very considerate to us in clearing the stage very quickly afterwards.

We were in two minds which way to go with our own set and started off with the more predominantly covers based list but soon changed tack and brought in all the new stuff when we realised we had a bunch of Metal Heads in front of us.  We’re already looking forward to more outdoor gigs next year!

A personal note from me just to thank my fellow band members Neil and Alex for all their hard work, particularly over the last few weeks when things have got pretty intense!  As well as the new material that we’ve put into the set recently – and the fact that it is by far the most challenging stuff we’ve ever done -  there’s plenty more on the way and I really appreciate the dedication and commitment that has been shown.

I know that collectively we can’t wait to get a new CD out - Andy

5 SEPTEMBER 2007

Recording plans part two…

Well we didn’t exactly get to play two gigs in the same day after all last weekend.  Although this will happen later in the year when we play a private function on the afternoon of the gig at Williton in Somerset on 22 September.

The session at The Ferrybridge Inn was recorded (in front of a very select audience) but that’s what it was really – a recording session.  More details will follow later but for now we can list the songs that were recorded (audio & video).

First though a massive thank you to Bill and Jane for setting it up for us and for their hospitality it really is something everyone in the band appreciates so much.  A big thank you also to Andy for his enthusiasm and hard work on the night.

We also want to thank Mary and her husband for turning up to see us again at The Royal Portland and for the video that they gave to us of an earlier Ferrybridge performance (August 2006).

So, here’s what we recorded

Hurts to feel

Break This

Moments Before

Nothing to Lose

Is Nothing Sacred

Feed my Soul

Bleed through Me

The Last Word

The Parallel

More on this later!

The recording session went really well and we intend to do some more recording very soon both in our own studio and at a yet to be decided commercial studio.

29 AUGUST 2007

Recording plans, new artwork & more gigs…

We have added quite a few new gigs to the list and this weekend sees the band play two gigs in the same day for the first time.  Although we have played two within 24 hours quite a few times.

The second gig on Sunday (2 September) is at The Ferrybridge Inn and is being recorded.  More details on that will follow later but anyone who wants to come along and help build up the atmosphere is more than welcome.

As previously mentioned, the band has been busy working on new material and plans for a new album will be posted soon.  Having said that we can tell you that some of the new songs that are likely to feature are as follows: -

Nothing to Lose

Moments Before

Three

Is Nothing Sacred

Feed my Soul

Bleed through Me

The Last Word

Even though there are only 7 tracks listed above they alone clock in at something like 54 minutes!

Recording should start in October or November and is likely to feature at least one more song.

Some new artwork should feature on the site in the near future.  Our Bass Player, Alex, has re-engineered the logo and as soon as we get it web friendly we’ll make some changes.

15 JULY 2007

The very sad loss of Martin Price…

Anyone close to the band is likely to have known Martin Price. Martin died in a tragic accident on Wednesday afternoon and it goes without saying that the band has been very deeply affected by the loss of such a loyal and great friend.

As many of you will know Martin’s son Alex has been a member of the band since February of this year which makes this time all the more painful and just four weeks ago at Martin was married to Sue  (Andy had the honour of being the best man).  This was such a happy occasion and something that will always live with us.

Our hearts go out to Martin’s wife Sue and his three sons, Adam, Alex and William and the rest of his family.

We will be off the road for the rest of July and will make plans for a suitable tribute to Martin at some stage in the near future.

20 APRIL 2007

A few changes to the gig & set list…

New outsider myspace page…

A few dates have been added and there are more in the pipeline.

Unfortunately tonight’s gig in Honiton and next Saturday’s in Williton have been cancelled

There have been a few more changes to the set list as well and we’re working on even more new material that should get an airing in the coming weeks.  One new song that really defines the band as it is now is the 10 minute plus masterpiece (well we think it is) “Bleed through me”.  We know it’s not likely to get in the set every gig but we will include when it feels right.

Outsider now has a myspace page

www.myspace.com/outsider3music

12 FEBRUARY 2007

ANOTHER BIG CHANGE FOR OUTSIDER…

Basically Mick Kirton has moved on to pastures new.  Three gigs into the New Year Mick told us that he would be leaving but would be available for the dates until the end of February.   This gave us plenty of time to sort ourselves out and its something that we will always appreciate.

The change to the line up came about very quickly and saw Neil Phillips move back to where his heart really lies – playing the drums – and  gave an opportunity for Alex Price to join the band on bass.

Rehearsals have gone well and some new material has even surfaced but, because of the break in our gigging schedule from late February to early March, we were conscious of the need to get the new line up blooded sooner.

The new line up played its first gig at The Westgate in Taunton last Friday.  It went well and we must give a big thank you to everyone there for the great reception they gave us.  It’s nice to know that Taunton does have a decent Rock pub after all

(even if it was only for one night!!!!).

More news will follow on the band’s plans for 2007 soon.

Where has Mick gone?  Well at first it was under wraps but we can now announce that in March Mick will be the new drummer in Hells Bells (AC-DC Tribute).  We wish Mick all the very best in this and look forward to catching one of their shows in the future.

12 DECEMBER 2006

…2007 DATES NOW ON THE GIG GUIDE...

The last gig of 2006 at the Ferrybridge in Weymouth saw the band play its 350th gig.  86 gigs in 2006 alone, no wonder we need a rest.

We are cutting back slightly in 2007 by staying off the road for at least one weekend a month.  Having said that we look forward to another busy year as there are already 56 gigs lined up.

We hope to be able to post more on our plans for 2007 soon.

2 MARCH 2006

…THE PARALLEL EP…

The Parallel EP is now out.  The track listing is as follows

1.     Nothing to lose

2.     Something I don’t need

3.     Hurts to feel

4.     Break this

5.     Only today

6.     The Parallel

The band decided to re-record some of the older material when picking tracks for a new demo in September 2005.  The first priority was to get an up to date demo disc featuring the new line up but it was also very much in their minds to be able to release something new for the same reason.

The disc also gives a bit of an insight into the future with the new track “Nothing to lose” although this has been in the band’s set for some time now.

Further recording is scheduled for later in the year and we’ll post details of the next full size Outsider album as soon as they are available.

4 FEBRUARY 2006

…THE PARALLEL EP…

…DUE FOR RELEASE FEBRUARY 2006…

The band has completed work on a 6 track mini album.  All that remains now is to complete the artwork and final track listing.

A further post will follow shortly with more specific details.

No prizes for guessing the title of one of the tracks.

9 DECEMBER 2005

…RECORDING NEWS…

The complete up to date gig list for 2006 is now in the Gig Guide.

The band has recently completed some new recording and will be issuing a 6 track mini album early in the New Year.  More details will be posted when it has been finalized.  The cd will contain several re-recordings of material from both earlier Outsider albums and includes one completely new track “Nothing to Lose”

More details to follow soon.

25 NOVEMBER 2005

…MORE 2006 GIGS…

…HOBBITS GIG TOMORROW NIGHT…

There have been more additions to the gig list for 2006.

Leading up to Saturday’s gig there has been a couple of interesting posts on the Hobbits forum about the band and we thought we might as well clear up one of the questions that was posed.  Particularly as there was a reply to this question from a former band member (a big hello to Jock).  Anyway, Jock’s version of events is more or less spot on, the name Outsider was one of 10 or so on a list and more or less everyone involved with the band at the time chose it.  We sort of rationalized it to mean we were outside of the main Weston music scene and because we were based just outside the town.  Nothing sinister and no really deep meanings.  Basically we just liked the sound of the name.

….Coming soon some new recording news….

31 OCTOBER 2005

…HALLOWEEN WEEKEND…

The Halloween weekend saw Outsider play two very different types of gig but both with more than a touch of Halloween about them.

First up was Red Hot Rock 2 held at Tiverton RFC on the Friday night.  This was the first gig for the band in a while featuring virtually all original material.

Outsider headlined the event playing a set of just over 50 minutes as detailed below.  The other bands on the bill were After the Blackout and Mummy Smack.  Credit has to go to the promoters for putting on a great night of varied rock music and the DJ (Paul) kept things going playing a superb selection of Rock and Metal.

“Something I Don’t Need”

“Full”

“Hurts To Feel”

“Kill The Truth”

“Is Nothing Sacred”

“ Break This”

“Only Today”

“The Parallel”

“Nothing To Lose”

“Am I Evil” (Diamond Head Cover)

The band would like to thank everyone who was at the gig for the reception on the night and particularly Paul and Mike the guys who put on this event.  Not only was it done with a great deal of professionalism but it was a pleasure to be there, no ego’s or the usual bullshit you tend to encounter at some of these types of gigs.

We really hope that there are more Red Hot Rock nights in the future and would love to be involved again some time.

Saturday saw a return to the pub circuit at The Crown in Westbury.  It started off slow with all sorts of ghouls, witches and other assorted Halloween clad people passing through.  The second set picked up pace and in the end it was a blast.

The next update should include the first listings for our 2006 gigs and news on the recording front……………….

11 JULY 2005

…LINE UP CHANGES (PART TWO)…

Thought we might as well leave it until after our first gig to announce the new line up of the band (actually it’s been delayed due to web connection problems).  So, as of 9 July 2005, Outsider are

Andy Sayers : Lead Guitar & Vocals

Mick Kirton : Drums

Neil Phillips : Bass Guitar

Most of you will remember Neil Phillips as one of the most long serving members of the band, but on drums (from April 2002 to October 2004 plus a guest appearance in May of this year).

Well as part of the bigger picture as it were he’s switched to Bass!

It might seem a bit radical (which it is) but in reality it isn’t such a mad idea as it might first seem.  Neil was a guitarist before taking up the drums and he already knew the set albeit from a slightly different angle!

Completing the line up and definitely last but not least is Mick Kirton.  Mick is a vastly experienced drummer and comes with, to use an old cliché, an outstanding pedigree having been a member of The Groundhogs, Hawkwind, Dumpy’s Rusty Nuts and more.

See Mick’s web site for more details……….. www.mickkirton.co.uk

The new band basically had just 11 day’s to prepare for their first gig together (The Swiss Chalet in Swindon, Saturday 9 July).

Despite the short time available to us the gig was very smooth and, for me, it felt like the new line up had been together for ages.  It was well in excess of anything I’d dared to hope for and has given us a great starting point to build on as we take the band forward.

Andy Sayers

30 JUNE 2005

…LINE UP CHANGES (PART ONE)…

A lot seems to have happened in the last week or so.

Basically some changes needed to be made to protect the future of the band and sadly there were some areas where we couldn’t agree on the way forward.  One of the enforced changes was the need to find a permanent drummer.  Dave Snook, who has been with us for the last 8 months or so, was due to leave at the end of July in any case.  However, he has not been able to commit to all of the bookings in recent weeks and with a number of possible short notice gigs likely top occur in July, it was not feasible to carry on with the existing line up.

I’m obviously sad to see Dave go earlier than planned but everyone wishes him well in the future.  He has an exceptional talent and is seeking to carve out a career in music after completing his degree at Gilford Academy of Contemporary Music.

All the best Dave.

As for replacing Dave Snook, my belief was that we should bring Neil Phillips back into the band.  He has the distinct advantages of knowing 99% of the material we play, he’s 100% reliable and, from my perspective, the total commitment that he can offer is vital in getting the band back on track.  Neil was available as the project that he left the band for in the first place didn’t work out.  Recently I’ve been jamming with Neil and, without actually setting out to do so, we’ve put together several new songs.  This was another big influence on my thinking but it was a major area where Dave Werrett and my self couldn’t agree.  I have to stress that this was in no way a question of me choosing between Dave and Neil but sadly it has also led to Dave Werrett leaving the band.

After over two years together, most of which as two thirds of a 3 piece band it’s more than sad to see Dave go.  At the end of the day the band has reached a major crossroads and Dave felt it was the right time for him to move on.  I know he wasn’t totally happy with some of the cover material in our set and I hope he finds what he’s looking for soon.  Wherever he goes, whatever band he joins, he’s bound to make a big impact.

You’ll be missed Dave.

As it turns out it never quite led to “and then there was one”.  A new line up is in place and we will not be cancelling any gigs.  Things have moved very quickly and obviously I’m keen to announce the new line up of the band etc. but for the moment I felt it more appropriate to post the above news first.  Full details and more gigs to be posted soon.

Once again a massive thank you and good luck to both Dave’s!

...VERY BAD NEWS...

Just before our gig on Saturday we heard that Phil, the Bass Player and Vocalist with Bristol Band ‘The Big Time’, had passed away.  He was only 50 and this will have come as a big shock to anyone that new him and the band.  There’s not a lot you can say at a time like this except that he will obviously be missed and that our thoughts go out to Phil’s family, friends and the rest of the guy’s in The Big Time.

19 FEBRUARY 2005

...HOBBITS GIG...

A very big thank you to everyone for the reception we were given at last nights gig at Hobbits in Weston-super-Mare.   We don’t get to do all that many gigs in the Weston area but when we get a reaction like that it really makes it all worthwhile.  We basically played this one on our own as the band lined up to support us had to pull out at the last minute.  It gave us the chance to do a longer set so we didn’t mind but we wish Zero Degrees all the best and hope they will be gigging in the not too distant future.  We will be back at Hobbits on Friday 22 July.  More details nearer the time.

14 JANUARY 2005

...BACK ON THE ROAD...

Last Saturday’s gig at The Kings Arms in Calne was a welcome return for the band after about 5 weeks off the road.   Not only was it the band’s first gig of 2005 but it was also our 200th!  Quite a milestone and with all the difficulties we faced towards the end of 2004 it was great to get 2005 off to such a good start.

23 DECEMBER 2004

...MORE 2005 DATES NOW ON LINE...

After what’s been an incredibly busy year for the band (70 gigs in all) it was strange to find ourselves with no gigs in December.  We had to put back the Red Post gig due to an existing commitment that Dave Snook had before joining the band and with a couple of other cancellations at short notice we found ourselves taking an unexpected break.

Having said that the dates for 2005 have been coming in steadily and we are now practically booked up for the first half of the year.

We’ve just started working on a few of the newer songs again and should be able to debut these fairly early in the new year.  Hopefully at the Hobbits gig on 18 February, if not before.

....Have a great Xmas.  See you in 2005....

8 NOVEMBER 2004

... DAVE’S FIRST GIG...

...2005 DATES NOW ON LINE...

Saturday 6 November at The Pig Inn (Gloucester) was Dave’s first gig with the band and he came through it with flying colours.  With just a handful of sessions before the gig we managed to put together a set of over 20 songs.  There were one or two ad lib ending’s as we settled down, but the second set was particularly good and we know we’ll go from strength to strength in the coming weeks.  Two more gigs this weekend, Friday 12 Farrington Inn, Farrington Gurney and Saturday 13 at King Billies in Warmley.

2005 dates are starting to come in quite quickly now.  See the gig guide for the dates confirmed up to June.

28 OCTOBER 2004

...NEIL’S LAST GIG...NEW DRUMMER ANNOUNCEMENT...

Tomorrows gig (Backpackers, Glastonbury) is Neil’s last with the band.

It’s been a very difficult period for the band as we’ve been gigging extensively since learning of Neil’s intention to leave.  We are, of course, very grateful to Neil for his commitment to us for the October gigs but on the other hand it’s been very much a case of mixed feelings.  We have really been torn between deciding whether or not to stop gigging until the change in line up was sorted out or to try to see it through with no cancellations.  In the end we’ve toughed it out but what has been clear is that we’ve been playing very well and, despite the situation, the gigs have been some of our most enjoyable ever.

We wish Neil all the best with his new venture and, as soon as we can, we will post more detail on what he’s going to be doing.

Our new drummer is a very talented young lad from Bristol called Dave Snook.  We are really excited about getting out on the road with Dave and about the things we’ve got planned for next year, but more about this later.  Dave has only been with us for about a week so he’s really getting in at the deep end.  We’ll post some gig reports soon (Dave makes his debut on Saturday 6 November at The Pig Inn, Gloucester).

27 SEPTEMBER 2004

...NEW DRUMMER REQUIRED URGENTLY...

Bad news......(very bad news) Neil has announced that he will be leaving the band at the end of October.  Basically he’s joining another band and taking the opportunity to further his horizons.  We wish him well with this and we’ll post more details once it’s all official but in the meantime we need to fill the vacancy in this band as soon as possible.

We are very grateful to Neil who has offered to stay with us to play all of the October gigs which should enable us to avoid any cancellations.  But this only gives us a few weeks to persuade him to shave off his beard.

29 JUNE 2004

...NEW MP3 PAGE...RECKLESS GIG...

Friday 25 June saw our return to the Reckless Engineer in Bristol.

The opening set was handled by a young band from Weston-super-Mare called “Red Rum” and the lads put in a good performance to start the night off.  We are looking forward to doing another gig with them in the near future and will confirm the details here as soon as possible.

We had also lined up the Bristol based band, “Lords of the Southern Priests” to play this gig but, unfortunately, they were affected by the sudden departure of their bass guitarist about one week before the gig.  We would like to wish them the best of luck with the new line up.

16 APRIL 2004

...NEW ALBUM RELEASED...

“Systems” will be released today, 16 April 2004.   It will be available at all gigs for £5.

More details, track listing and credits etc. can be found in the Studio diary page.

18 FEBRUARY 2004

...FIRST UPDATE OF 2004...

Long time with no news or anything, but we’ve been off the net for weeks.  Not through choice but the powers of nature!  At the beginning of the year we had a freak storm in the area (Hail and lightning etc.) and the modem on Andy’s PC was knocked out.

JANUARY

Started fairly well.  A few rehearsals to get us back in to it after the Xmas break and we got our first gig of the year under our belts on 10 January at The Yew Tree in Dursley, Glos.  Look forward to going back there on 15 May.

The final mixes for the new album “Systems” were coming together nicely but we had a bit of a set back on Friday 16 January.  Andy’s wife, Ali, was rushed in to hospital early in the afternoon, so we had no choice but to cancel the gig scheduled for that night at the Back Bar Live in Weston-super-Mare.  Thankfully, Ali is now making a good recovery.  Typically, she insisted that the band should not cancel any more gigs and, respecting that wish, we played at the Robin Hood in Gloucester on the Sunday night.  Whilst it was a bit quiet, being a January Sunday, the gig went very well and we all look forward to returning there later in the year.

Many thanks to everyone at the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport.

The following week the band played three gigs in four days, something that they will be doing quite a lot of in 2004.  Particular highlights of that weekend were the gigs at the Kings Arms in Yeovil and the Masons in Warminster.  Lots of very positive feedback and some weird dancing!  We finished the month off with a trip across the Mendips, in a gale, to the Red Post at Peasdown St John.  Look forward to a return visit in April.

FEBRUARY

The final mixes for the new album were coming together and on Saturday 7 February we had the first mastering session.  Still some more work to do though, see the next studio update.

Before that we played our first gig at The Kings Head in Wells.  Great venue and an amazing Hi-Tech PA system (lots of small speakers!).  Really good to be able to play a lot more of our own stuff.  We dusted off Glass House and played Full for the first time since?   Should be returning to the Kings Head in May or June.

Last week (Friday 13!) was our first appearance at another new venue for the band, the Bunch of Grapes in Bristol.  Many thanks to everyone for the great reception we were given.  Again we got to put a few more originals in.  We return there on Friday 2 April.  On the Saturday we played at the Old Pier Tavern in Burnham on Sea.  Three full sets, we were knackered, but it was fun!  The Valentine’s night dancing was a bit different though (you had to be there, we can’t print the details here, raunchy doesn’t get close to describing it!).

Tomorrow night we return to one of our favorite venues, The Old Tavern in Bristol.  Then we’ve got two more in Bristol at the weekend, Saturday 21 at the Blackhorse in Kingswood and Sunday afternoon (2PM) at the Farriers, Fishponds.

31 DECEMBER 2003

...Happy new year to everyone who has supported the band in 2003...

...Album nearly finished, see studio diary...

4 DECEMBER 2003

...BIRTHDAY BASH...NEW SONGS AND REMIXES...

This week we’ve only got one gig but it just happens to be on the same day as Neil’s Birthday, we’re playing at one of our favourite venue’s (The Stones Cross, Midsomer Norton) and Terry will be coming back for specially for the night.

It also follows on from two particularly good gigs last week (Crab Apple in Clevedon and The Jolly Sailor in Hanham).  These had to be two of the tightest gigs the band has ever played and we’ve even received another rave review which we will put on the site as soon as possible.

Back to Saturday, it’ll be great to have Terry back for at least part of the gig and we’re also planning to bring in a couple of new songs in the first set (one cover and one from the new album that hasn’t been blooded!).

Talking of the new album.  The remixes are coming together really well.  Another Studio update will be posted very soon.

Finally, there have been some vicious rumours going around that the band will be buying Neil a razor (for that nasty beard) and a real black coloured fleece (not faded into brownish murk).  We just want to set the record straight and say these slurs are simply not true.  Why would we waste money like that?  It’s not what Neil would want (it’s not Fosters).

6 OCTOBER 2003

...LOOK BACK AT SEPTEMBER...

The last month was amazing.  Not only our busiest ever as far as gigs are concerned but we were also rather involved in the recording of our second album.

We managed 8 gigs in September.  Returning to old favourites like the Stones Cross (Midsomer Norton) and the Crab Apple (Clevedon).    It was good to get back to the Old Pier Tavern in Burnham on Sea just four weeks after the previous gig there and build on the success of the earlier visit.  We also played a few new venues and look forward to returning to the Royal Oak (Chipping Sodbury) and the Golden Lion (Fishponds) in the new year.

The band would like to give a big thank you to Terry Anderson for his presence during part of the summer, Dave’s family and friends for their support, particularly last week when we definitely felt a lot more comfortable with some friendly faces nearby (you know the gig we’re talking about), and, last but not least, Mark and the crowd from the Old Tavern who were also at the aforementioned gig.  Your support was really appreciated and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

21 SEPTEMBER 2003

...ANOTHER LATE NIGHT AND A BIG THANK YOU & FAREWELL TO TERRY ANDERSON...

We’ve just got back from the gig at the Old Pier Tavern which was Terry Anderson’s last gig with the band (at least for now).  It’s quite likely that we’ll get him to do a guest spot of some kind later in the year when he gets a break from his studies at Plymouth University.  For those that don’t know Terry is just about to start the second year of his course in Plymouth which involves, amongst other things, some music technology, web site creation, photography and other media related stuff.  It’s been great to have Terry back with us for part of the summer and we all wish him all the best for the future.  See you for Neil’s birthday!

17 SEPTEMBER 2003

...REVIEW OF LAST SATURDAY’S GIG...

We have just received a review of our gig last Saturday at the Stones Cross in Midsomer Norton.  We said at the time that it was particularly nice to get so many good comments from people on the night, so when you add to that the following very positive review, it can’t be bad.  All we can say is a big thank you to Taz.

The gig kicked off about 9.15 as Outsider broke into "Glass House", a track off their debut album with quite an impact.  They then followed straight into "In the end" with a catchy Bass line intro to get it started and quite a catchy, snappy chorus.  Even before the band had finished the song, the audience were clapping and cheering and it’s always great to see people acknowledging original material (also quite a refreshing change from seeing bands just play covers).  The next song was quite unexpected "Fire and Water" by Free, not a song I’ve heard very often by a covers band but they pulled it off with ease and plenty of atmosphere in the excellent guitar solo's backed by the solid bass and drums. Next up there were a couple more covers by Radiohead and Hendrix.  Then came a real treat a song called "Break this" which I hadn’t heard before. This song is to be released very soon on their second album.  It has a fantastic melodic intro, into a thumping bass line and then the drums and guitar fire in on all cylinders into a full on upbeat rocker! Carrying on then into a few more covers and one which caught my attention Keyboard intro but no keyboards?? Andy using his effects to their potential "No more tears" by Ozzy Osbourne.   What a storming song, plenty of atmosphere and the 3 piece pulling together like glue, this is one you've gotta hear.   Thin Lizzy track next then "If you’re there" another track from the next album (one which I managed to catch at the Fleece in Bristol a couple weeks before) another full steam ahead track with plenty of twists half time feels and even a bass solo. "Something I don’t need" was next up, a blistering track again off the new album, following into "Sunshine of your love" then "Children of the grave" "Stealin"  and "Tush".  By this point the band had a fantastic reaction but more was to come. The epic "Parallel " taken from the debut album, this 8 minute masterpiece was electric, it’s got everything apart from the kitchen sink in there! After finishing this the room filled with clapping and cheering (my ears are still ringing now)
Outsider then were getting close to the end of the night finishing up with a few more covers "Doctor doctor" "You really got me" "Enter sandman" the crowd had really taken to Outsider and there was a really good vibe.  Encores were called so they delivered “Paranoid” then “Bomber” by Motorhead.  Two fast paced and rocking tunes which finished the night perfectly.  This was the first time I had seen the band as a three piece and I was concerned that it would lack something but I was wrong.  It was probably the best I've seen them. I just can't wait for the new album, it promises to be something a little bit special!

14 SEPTEMBER 2003

...5 GIGS IN TEN DAYS & MORE...

Five gigs in ten days and we’re still standing!  We’ve even managed to play “Bomber” at the end of most of them.  This has been the busiest period yet for the band, and we would like to say a big thank you to everyone at the Golden Lion in Bristol, the Crab Apple in Clevedon and the Stones Cross in Midsomer Norton for the reception that we’ve been given at all of the gigs this week.

It was particularly nice to get so many positive comments from people at the Stones Cross (Midsomer Norton) on Saturday night.  This is a regular gig for us and it was our first time back there as a three piece.  Whilst we’ve been pleased with how things have been going in the last 6 weeks, it was good to get the extra boost from the praise we received on the night.

We’ve played a few more tracks off the new album this week and it was nice to hear such a good reaction to them.  “Break this” and “If you’re there” are two of the newest and they seemed to go down extremely well.

We’ve still got three more gigs lined up for September and, although we’re now quite settled as a three piece, we’ve got Terry back with us for one more next Saturday at the Old Pier Tavern in Burnham on Sea.  The next week we are at the George & Dragon in Winterbourne on the Friday night and on the Saturday we’ve got a hometown gig at the Borough Arms in Weston-super-Mare.

Later this week we will put a further update on the recording of our new album on the site.  Believe it or not we have managed to get some recording done in between all the recent gigs.  We’ve also had Dave’s Camcorder aimed at us a lot recently and some of the sound recordings from that will be reviewed this week.  Could be an mp3 file or two from this, we’ll see.

12 SEPTEMBER 2003

...MORE GIGS BEING LINED UP...

We are now about half way through the September gigs, the busiest period yet for the band, and we would just like to thank everyone at the Golden Lion in Bristol and the Crab Apple in Clevedon for the reception that we we’re given this week.

We are looking forward to the Stones Cross (Midsomer Norton) on Saturday and we’ve just added a couple of new dates for later in the year, with more to come soon.  See the gig guide page.

30 AUGUST 2003

...LAST NIGHT’S GIG AT THE FLEECE IN BRISTOL...

Last night’s gig was Outsider’s first appearance at the Fleece & Firkin in Bristol this year.  After such a successful run of gigs in recent weeks we knew this one was likely to go quite well but last night exceeded those expectations.  All we can say is a massive thank you to everyone at the Fleece for the welcome that we were given and the continued warmth of the response that continued throughout our set.

We know it was one of the best, probably the best, performance that we have put in at the Fleece but the response we received was very special and we can’t wait to get back up there again as soon as possible.  It was good to talk to people that had seen us at previous Fleece gigs and meet some that had made the effort to come and se us after seeing us before and checking out this site etc.

We also owe a big thank you to Dave Brayley and to hi-on Maiden for giving us the opportunity to be there in the first place.

The set list for Friday was

Children of the grave (Black Sabbath)

Something I don’t need

Glass House

In the end

Sunshine of your love (Cream)

If you’re there

The Parallel

Full

Bomber (Motorhead)

A further update from the studio will be posted soon.  In the meantime we have now started a studio diary, which will basically be a running archive of the studio updates throughout the recording and mixing process.

15 AUGUST 2003

...TERRY ANDERSON BACK FOR SEPTEMBER GIGS...

...MORE GIGS ADDED...

Terry Anderson who was with the band from October 2000 through to August 2002 (with the exception of a long break in Australia last year) is back with the band for the rest of the gigs this month and for several of those in September.

The band still intends to carry on as three piece after the summer but it seemed ideal to team up again with Terry who has kept close links with the band whilst away at University in Plymouth.

Terry will also be helping the band out in the studio next week when work starts on some new recordings that might be the start of the new album.  Much more on this to come and, as soon as we can, we’ll update the mp3 page.   We are also looking in to the possibility of getting more mp3’s linked to this site in the future.

10 AUGUST 2003

...FIRST GIGS AS A THREE PIECE...

Both of this weeks gigs went very well with the band producing two high energy performances (despite the heat) and a sound that certainly exceeded the expected limitations of a three piece line up.  With only one rehearsal as a trio we were delighted with the way that things gelled and the fact that we only had to drop one song from the set.

The band would like to thank everyone at the Queen Vic in Stroud (Thursday) and the Green Dragon in Chard (Friday) for helping to make the first gigs with the new three piece line up such a success.

Also a special mention to the folks from Spoylydge for coming along to support us on Thursday night.

Earlier in the week the band parted company with guitarist Dan Cable.  The decision was made to continue as a three piece for the foreseeable future and not rush in finding a replacement.

13 JUNE 2003

...NEW FLEECE DATE ADDED...

Outsider will be supporting Hi-on Maiden at The Fleece & Firkin in Bristol on Friday 29 August 2003.  This will be a welcome return to one of the bands favorite venues and will also be the first Time this year that they have hooked up with the Maiden tribute band having played in Bristol and Taunton with them last year.

31 MAY 2003

...MORE NEW GIGS ADDED...

A good end to what has been a rather eventful month for the band.

The introduction of new bass guitarist Dave Werrett has given us a

great lift and strengthened the band significantly.

A massive thank you to Pete for coming in at such short notice to

help us out at the beginning of the month when we were rather suddenly let down.  It was good to get back up there with him and we got to give The Parallel a couple of airings in the process.

Talking of The Parallel, Dave has already got his teeth into it, so it should be back in the set very soon.

Several updates have been made to the gigs page today.

It’s good to get another local venue booked

(Crabbe Apple, Clevedon Thursday 26 June 2003)

By the way if anyone wonders what the heading of the last message meant, it started with “Boll”.

20 MAY 2003

...IT ENDS IN “OCKS”...

Sadly the Imperial (Weston-s-Mare) gig for 4 July has been cancelled (by the venue -not us).  We are honestly left more than a bit bewildered by this.  Apparently the feedback received by the management was rather different from that experienced by the band, both on the night and following the gig.  What’s really going on is a mystery to us although we are sure that we’re not the first or the last HR. band to experience this type of prejudice.  All we can do is thank everyone who was there for the reception they gave us on the night.

Our next WSM gig is scheduled for September 27 at The Borough Arms.

Still, this isn’t going to get us down.  The new line up has already taken the band on to another level and we look forward to starting the new album in the near future.

16 MAY 2003

...FIRST GIG FOR NEW LINE UP...

Last night we played at the Old Tavern in Bristol and just about two weeks after joining the band new bass player Dave Werrett made his debut.   It was obvious from the way that rehearsals went (we only had time for four) that Dave would have no difficulty settling in, but on the night it was like he’d been with us for years. This helped to make it a very special night for the band and we look forward to many more like it.  We would also like to give a big thank you to everyone at the old tavern for your support and we hope to be back there in the not too distant future.

8 MAY 2003

...NEW BASSIST...

Looks like the search for a permanent replacement for Pete

is finally over.   Dave Werrett has very recently joined the band and is already well in to learning the set.  So much so that he is likely to feature  in his first gigs with the band as early as next week (Thursday 15 May, The Old Tavern, Bristol and Saturday 17 May, The Dursley Arms, Trowbridge), making his debut just two weeks after his first rehearsal with the band.

We all look forward to working with Dave and serious plans can now be made for the recording of the second album.

4 MAY 2003

...WAS THAT THE NEW OR OLD BASS PLAYER?...

What did we say last week about the bass player situation?

Well it was Pete who came back to help us out, playing a full set at our gig in Warminster with just three days notice after Ant decided, for reasons best known to himself, to pull out of the May gigs.  Needless to say we had a blast.  It was really good to get Pete up there again and, considering he didn’t get the chance to rehearse with us beforehand he played an amazing gig.   It was like he’d never been away.

Looks like Pete will be doing the gig next Saturday (10 May at the Queens head, Easton, Bristol) and we will be announcing the new bassist very soon!

28 APRIL 2003

...NEW BASS PLAYER...

The search for a new bass guitarist goes on and an announcement is expected soon.  In the meantime Ant is still helping the band out whilst planning his new project.

Several more gigs have been added in the last few weeks

(see the gigs page)

26 JANUARY 2003

...LAST NIGHTS ROCK CAFE 2000 GIG...

The band would like to give a big thank you to everyone for the reception they were given at the Rock Cafe 2000 in Stourbridge last night.....

Whilst the audience was clearly waiting for what was a very explosive performance from Dressed to Kill, they showed their appreciation for the strong set played by Outsider, which included a few new twists (see below).

The set was as follows : -

“Children of the grave” (Black Sabbath)

“Systems”

“Glass house”

“In the end”

“Sunshine of your love” (Cream : ala outsider)

“Realise

“Walk away”

“Something I don’t need”

“Full”

The band would like to show their appreciation to Dressed to Kill and to all at the Rock Cafe 2000 for their kindness (advice on the takeaway was most welcome);   the sound man for an excellent mix and to the people that showed such an interest in the band and helped to make it a great night.

A very happy (30th) birthday to Heather for next weekend and yes we think the tide was in when we got to Avonmouth.

It was nearly 4 am though!

New twists! as the band get closer to the start of the recording process for the second album, some of the songs brought in to the set over the last 18 months or so have been slightly re-worked.   “Realise” has been given some new guitar parts, which, whilst staying faithful to the original demo, have given the song a different and more powerful sound.  “Full” has been given a new and more intense intro.  There may be a few more changes to the material in the coming weeks but these are unlikely to affect the song arrangements.

21 JANUARY 2003

...TIME FOR A LONG AWAITED UPDATE...

LONG SERVING BASS PLAYER PETE BRIERTON LEAVES THE BAND.....

Pete has gone into retirement (concentrating on a very demanding job and his family commitments) so we’ll never see that strange 4 stringed thing again.  His departure is on very amicable terms (see below) and was actually known to the band a couple of months ago and this has made it possible for us to line up Pete’s replacement whilst staying on the road.  The band would like to thank Pete for his contribution over the last couple of years and for the consideration he has given us in the last few months.  We wish him all the very best for the future.  We will miss his jokes and all the banter but aim to drag him up on stage for the odd number every now and again.

14 DECEMBER 2002

The Fleece & Firkin gig in Bristol last night was a great success for the band.   Not only was it the biggest audience for any of the gigs in 2002 but it was definitely one of the best responses that we’ve had.   A great end to what has been the best year in the band’s history so far.

We also had the privilege to support one of the country’s leading tribute bands Gunz n’ Rozes and want to thank them for their kindness and consideration.  They will be calling it a day in very soon (next weekend infact) and we want to wish the lads in the band all the best with their new venture’s.

Also a very big thank you to Dave Brayley and Dcb Promotions for giving us the opportunity to play the Fleece several times this year.  We are looking forward to playing there again at some time in 2003.

The gig list for 2003 is starting to fill up see gigs page...

18 OCTOBER 2002

Farmers Arms, West Hatch near Taunton tonight at 9pm

(or slightly earlier) supporting Hi-on Maiden.

Some more additions have been made to the gigs page including the first batch of bookings for 2003.

We will be supporting Gunz n Rozes at the Fleece & Firkin in

Bristol on Friday 13 November.

We team up with Dressed to Kill again in January at Rock Cafe 2000 in Stourbridge.

14 AUGUST 2002

A very special thank you to everyone for the great response at the Imperial gig on Saturday 10th August (three encore’s later and we were knackered).

It meant a lot to the band to get such a good reception in our home town and we look forward to doing it again soon!

The band will be taking a well earned break  for a few weeks before the next batch of gigs in September (19th Old Tavern, Bristol, 20th  The Full Moon, Bristol supporting Hi-on Maiden and 28th at the Fleece and Firkin supporting Dressed to Kill)

Two more new tracks are nearly ready for their first airing and, at the moment, it looks like the recording sessions for the next cd will start in November or December.

21 JULY 2002

Big thank you to everyone for their support at the recent gigs in Weston (Borough Arms) and Midsomer Norton (Stones Cross)

The band are looking forward to Thursday 25 July and their gig at

The Old Fire Station in Bristol.  There are four bands on the bill

 9:30   Ragnarock

10:15   Red October

11:00   Readly page

11:45   Outsider

This is a new venue and has the potential to help raise the profile of rock music in Bristol (it’s about time!)

Further gigs being added see the gigs page.........

20 JUNE 2002

Outsider will play their first gig in their home town for

nearly 2 years on 6 July 2002 at the Borough Arms, locking road

Weston-super-Mare

This is not only an important gig for us (plenty of support please) but it’s a chance to help keep one of the towns live venues going

This gig will also see the return of Terry Anderson

for at least part of the set

8 JUNE 2002

Many thanks to everyone that turned up to the gig last night  at

“Rockers Live” in Taunton.

Despite having a smaller audience than had been expected it was a good night and it was particularly good to see some old friends including Dave Williams, our original bass guitarist.

Most of the pubs in Taunton seemed to be closed on the night and we were probably victims of the world cup to some extent!

The Kings Arms, Yeovil gig has been put back a week to 16 June

(4pm start).  Should be interesting.

7 JUNE 2002

Tonight we are playing at a new venue in Taunton, “Rockers Live”

This looks to be a promising and most welcome addition to the local music scene.  Shame there aren’t more venue’s like this!

A big thank you from the band to Whole Lotta Led for their help and consideration and to a great audience for making last Friday a very special night for us.

The gig was recorded from the desk and the results were good.  We aim to have some of this available in mp3 format soon.

24 MAY 2002

We did say there would be some more dates and now their starting to come in (see the gigs page)

Next gig (and it’s going to be a good night) Friday 31 May

supporting Whole Lotta Led at the Fleece & Firkin, Bristol

We will be playing a set of mostly original material and then joining the crowd to watch what we know will be an excellent tribute to one of the most influential rock bands ever (just ask Pete about being dazed and confused !)

The band would like to give a big thank you Whole Lotta Led for this opportunity.

4TH APRIL 2002

The band has recently added new guitarist, Dan Cable, and new drummer, Neil Phillips to the line up.  Rehearsals with the new members have started and they should be making their first appearances with the band in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, Terry is away in Australia enjoying his sabbatical! but should be back with the band for the gigs in July and August before he leaves to go to University although, he will hopefully he will still make some guest appearances in the future

The lads would like to thank Nathan for his time with the band and Matt for stepping in at short notice to fill in on skins whilst the new line up is in its earl stages

14TH MARCH 2002

Flying by the seat!  (the Old Tavern gig Thursday 14 March 2002)

Nathan was taken ill today and because the band had been forced to cancel their previous gig at the old tavern at short notice it was the last thing that they wanted to do this time.  Thankfully they were able to call on Matt to come in at very short (just a few hours) notice to give a very full on performance and the gig went very well all things considered

2ND FEBRUARY 2002

A really big thank you to everyone for their support at our most recent gig at the Fleece & Firkin, Bristol , (2 February) supporting “Dressed to Kill”(Kiss tribute band) & special thanks to the lads from “Dressed to Kill” for their kindness and a superb performance.

It was a great night for the band and we look forward to getting together again in the future.
