..HISTORY.. The
Band was formed in January 1984 by Andy Sayers (Guitar & Vocals) and
Cliff Evans (Guitar) who were at the time joined by Haydon Palmer on Bass and
Ben Graves (Drums), both of whom were temporary members of the band with
musical interests/commitments elsewhere.
They were, however, both to feature on the self released 10 track
cassette album in the summer of 1984 even though this line up only managed
one live performance (the first one for Zenith) at Hobbits in February 1984. Andrew
Jamieson joined the band on bass in 1985 followed by Keith Townsend on drums
later in the year. Both were to later
team up again with Andy Sayers to form Outsider
in 1998. The drum position was held,
again on a temporary basis, by Mark Helmore until Keith joined the band. Gigs
were not regular in the period up to 1985 but once the line up was complete
more dates were played and 1986 was a particularly busy year for the
band. A full list of the Zenith gig
history is on the “Live” page on this site. In
1986 Zenith released a 3 track single/EP containing the songs “Heavy Heart”, “Death
by Misadventure” and “Not G Guilty”
recorded at Horizon Studios Later
in 1986 the band parted company with Cliff Evans and brought Gary Townsend in
on bass guitar with Andy Jamieson switching to lead duties. This line up remained until the band’s
demise in March 1987 shortly after recording what should have been the second
single “Leaving You” and “Ruthless” (again see MP3 on Music page) |
