..HISTORY..

When the band called it a day in January 1983 (and at the time of their one reunion gig in October of the same year) they consisted of:

Mike Lloyd: Vocals

Andy Sayers: Lead Guitar

Nigel Shellford: Lead Guitar

Ian Mereweather: Bass

Martyn Dykes: Drums

Over the years Traitors Gate managed to create an extensive range of original material (fully listed on the music page) and a few of these songs have been dusted down with mp3’s put on this site.

A full list of all the gigs played by the band can also be found here but some particular highlights would have to be the gigs at The Old Pier and Hobbits in Weston-super-Mare, Banwell Village Hall and the tour of Cornwall!

Originally the band was going to be a four piece but singer Neil Bland was poached by another local band at the time – Jaques De Van.  Small world that it is Martyn Dykes now plays in a Weston based band with Rob Jaques called Trouble 'n Strife

The decision was made to carry on as a three piece and that’s how it was when the band made its first appearance at The Granary on Bristol in February 1981.

In 1982 the band was joined by Mike Lloyd (Vocals) and later in the same year by Nigel Shellford on guitar.  The five piece line up remained in place until the band decided to go their separate ways with Shelly leaving to join Shanghai and Martyn, Mike and Andy cropping up in other bands over the next few months/years.  Both Martyn and Shelly played in the Cliff Moore band at some stage and Andy went on to form another local band called Zenith.  Boris retired at what was a very tender age but is still an avid music fan.

Andy, Shelly and Martyn were briefly reunited in 1987 in a band called Paris (with Neil Bland) but sadly that project didn’t quite manage to get off the ground.

Mike is believed to be currently in the process of putting together a band in the Swindon area.
